Future Farmer Program

Future Farmer Program

Launched in 2021, the Future Farmer Program supports aspiring farmers by reducing financial barriers to agricultural education and creating meaningful, hands-on learning opportunities on WWOOF host farms.

Participants take part in a 10-week immersive experience, combining time on a WWOOF USA host farm with Tufts University’s New Entry Sustainable Farming Project Crop Production Course. This unique model allows Future Farmers to build practical skills while learning directly from experienced farmers and educators.

Growing Impact

The Future Farmer Program is rooted in a simple idea: resilient food systems grow from community, shared knowledge, and accessible pathways into agriculture.

By supporting new farmers at the start of their journeys, the program helps strengthen the future of sustainable farming.

Since 2021, the program has continued to expand:

  • 124 Future Farmers supported
  • $305,000+ in grants awarded
  • 16,000+ hours spent learning and working on farms across the U.S.

Beyond these numbers, the program is helping cultivate a growing network of beginning farmers: people building knowledge, confidence, and lasting relationships that extend far beyond a single season.

We’re proud to welcome each new cohort and look forward to the connections, learning, and long-term impact that will continue to grow from their experiences.

2026 Future Farmers

This year’s cohort brings together a group of emerging farmers stepping into a season of learning, relationship-building, and hands-on experience on WWOOF host farms across the country.

Program Support

In 2026, the Future Farmer Program is made possible through the generous support of Patagonia, the Paul Symchych Charitable Trust, the Earth Rising Foundation, and the North Central Region Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (SARE) program.

Support from NCR-SARE has expanded the program’s impact in the North Central United States, including a first-ever pilot that partners directly with organic farmers to help shape the program through participation, feedback, and farmer-led learning.
